Elder Board
Rod Sugiyama
Rod began attending SBCC since 1993. He started serving God through SBCC by driving the old church van to set up for service, being an emcee and small group leader. Rod came aboard the management team in 2003, and took on the role of Elder in 2005. He thanks God for giving him the insight and wisdom to understand the responsibilities of being the Elder of His church. Through prayer and God's wisdom, Rod desires to make good decisions for His Kingdom. He has been married to his wife Claire for fourteen years and they have two children, Craig (12 years old) and Sarah (6 years old).
Morris Ko
At the invitation of his future wife Sherilyn, Morris started attending South Bay Community Church in 1994. It was in that same year, after hearing an inspiring message from Pastor Gary, that he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. God has blessed Morris and Sherilyn with their son Caleb, who keeps them busy. Morris recently joined the Elder Board in 2009, and is currently the Prayer Ministry Director. He is a UCLA graduate and has been employed for 20+ years at the Los Angeles County Assessor's office. He enjoys sports, especially running and basketball. And is a big fan of the Lakers, Dodgers, and Bruins.

Gary Shiohama (Senior Pastor)
Gary founded South Bay Community Church in 1992, and he has served as its senior pastor since the beginning. Before God called him into full-time ministry, Gary worked in politics and owned a Mexican restaurant. He's an alumnus of Pepperdine University, and an avid Star Wars and Angels fan. Gary is married to his lovely wife, Cheryl, and he has two daughters, Kailie and Natalie, and a step-son, Brandon.
Ken Tachikawa (Associate Pastor)
Ken has been attending South Bay Community Church since 1996. He came on staff in 1999 as the director of administration, and since 2004, has been serving as the associate pastor overseeing spiritual formation and small group ministry. Ken was blessed in marriage to Natsuko in 2002 and has been gifted with two beautiful daughters Keriann and Reese. Ken's heart is to see the church grasp the fullness of all that Jesus offers that in a life of submission to Christ can be found a life of transformation, of power, and of hope. Ken's passion is also to see God-centered marriages that lead to healthy families, effective churches and stronger communities. Ken enjoys fishing, playing flag football, and is a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan!
Carlton Fukumoto (Executive Pastoral Assistant)
James O (Youth Pastor)
James has been on staff at our church since 2004. He started out as an intern with our junior high ministry, and he now serves as our youth pastor. James has always had a passion for youth and has worked with them since graduating high school in 1999. Before joining our staff, James worked at a number of local after-school programs and tutorial centers as a tutor and assistant director. He enjoys playing guitar and watching the New York Yankees win championships.
Lillian Yoshimura (KidzKrew Director)
Lillian has been attending South Bay Community Church since 1999. Through the years, she has served on various ministries - Greeting, Servant's Heart, Hospitality, Design, and Prayer. Most recently, she has been the Children's Ministry Director in KidzKrew. She is presently a 5th grade teacher in the public schools, holding a Master's Degree and National Board Certification. But it is KidzKrew that drives her energy and purpose. She generally teaches 3 weekend services in KidzKrew, serving children through the Bible and Christ's love.
Joey Everett (Worship Leader)
Dave Romero (Associate Pastor)
Dave has been attending South Bay Community Church since 1994 serving in various ministries from KidzKrew to the worship team. He has spent the last two years serving as an advisor for the Evolution Jr. High Ministry and joined the staff as a pastoral intern in 2008. It was serving with the youth where God stirred a passion in him to direct his life towards the ministry. He enjoys all things sports related including watching his favorite teams the LA Lakers and USC Trojans. He also loves watching movies and collecting comic books, which might explain why he is single.
Gary Fukumoto (Lay Pastor to Senior Adults)
Gary worked in the aerospace industry for 38 years as a senior member of the Technical Staff before he retired in 1998. He is married to his wife Betty and has three grown daughters. He is blessed with four granddaughters, two grandsons, and one great grandson. He has been attending SBCC since January 2005, and was appointed Lay Pastor to Senior Adults in 2008. Gary is an avid golfer, fisherman, and enjoys playing the Ukulele with his group "Aloha Akua Mele".
Trisha Vuong (Administrator)
Trisha began attending South Bay Community Church in 2002. In 2005, she began serving on what was a tiny staff as the Church Administrator. Prior to that, she worked in the field of entertainment as a talent rep at a dance/choreography agency and taught dance classes to youth on the side. While she still enjoys the world of dance and all things artistic, her passion for God and His people have taken center stage. Trisha is married to her husband Danny, and they were blessed with a hilarious daughter named Riley in 2009. Trisha relishes family time, live performances, and games of all sorts.
Karen Ly (Administrative Assistant)
Karen has served part-time as our administrative assistant since 2003. Prior to that, she was a dental technician, specializing in cosmetic dentistry for many years. She was introduced to Christ in the 1980's, but it wasn't until attending SBCC that she grew in faith through the 40 Days of Purpose series in 2002. She considers her decision to join a LifeGroup as one of the most important decisions in her walk with Christ. Karen is married to Jeff and has three kids, Randall, Kristen and Noelle, who all bring sunshine into her life. Karen enjoys skiing, going to professional soccer and baseball games, socializing with friends, and watching her kids play softball and soccer.

Volunteer Staff
Irene Oshiro (Volunteer Administrative Assistant)
Irene is a retired secretary who began volunteering in the church office in 2003 when she realized the office staff was responsible for doing office maintenance on a rotational basis in addition to their normal duties. She started out doing general housekeeping duties, and soon extended her title to our Organizing Queen at the church and office. Irene is married to Howard (Mr. Fix-It) and has two married daughters and 6 grandchildren. Pastor Gary is married to Cheryl, her oldest daughter.
Dana Clark (Flyer Girl...and more!)
Dana came to South Bay Community Church in 2004. She is happily married to Michael, and this year they will be celebrating their 10-year anniversary. They reside in Torrance and have a precious kitty named Amber whom they adore. Michael and Dana enjoy spending time with family and friends, working together on home improvement projects, travelling, gardening, attending praise concerts, and hitting the driving range.
